Family Support Worker – Healthy Families Program
Watson Children’s Shelter is seeking applicants for a full-time Family Support Worker position for its newly developed Healthy Families Program. The Program, developed using a national evidenced-based model is designed to help parents of newborns get their children off to a healthy start and to help families overcome challenges. The Family Support Worker is responsible for initiating and maintaining regular and long-term contact and support with families. Duties include conducting the identified assessment tool with parents to determine eligibility for the program; regular and consistent home visits; establishing a trusting relationship with families; assisting in strengthening the parent-child relationship; assisting parents in improving their skills to strengthen the home environment; improving the family’s support system; and increasing the family’s ability to problem solve and assume the role of advocate for themselves and their children. Other duties include identifying and referring for contact and appointment at other supportive agencies, including health care services. The Family Support Worker will also be responsible for assisting the family in establishing goals and a plan for accomplishment of those goals, as well as the assessment of, and education on the normal growth and development of the identified child.

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in a human services field and must be able to establish and maintain personal and programmatic boundaries while providing supportive services to families. Strong candidates will have experience in family systems work; demonstrate maturity and experience in working with children (0-3 years of age) and their families; have knowledge of normal child growth and development and parent-child relationships; and have the ability to relate to families from a family-centered and strength-based approach to services. Other helpful skills include: having a knowledge of maternal-infant health; ACE’s training; ability to be non-judgmental; creative and knowledgeable about community resources; enjoy and function well with long-term, ongoing goals; and have an understanding of other concepts related to child abuse and neglect. Position is full-time and eligible for full benefits.

On-Call Staff – on-call shift work is an on-going hiring. We are hiring this position year round.

We currently have an on-call 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday position open working with toddlers. This position is only available while the shelter has a toddler population. It can change.

Requirements:  High School Diploma or GED, 21 and over only
